Modern retail interior in Ukraine - Central Department Store in Kiev

Today, the Danica team shows you, in our opinion, worthy projects of Ukraine.

Central Department Store is an iconic department store in the heart of Kyiv.

The English bureau "Bonay" took responsibility not only for the interior and exterior of the object, the team also performed the duties of architects, visualizers, was responsible for interior design and even the applicators of the project.

The Central Department Store itself, as one of the most outstanding complexes in Kyiv, has a rich history. The building was originally designed by the respected Soviet architect Alexei Shchusev in 1939. Despite being damaged during World War II, the department store was rebuilt and even enlarged in size until 1956 to become the city's leading retail outlet.

Being one of the most beautiful buildings in Kyiv, it was a great honor for the Benoy team to work on a project that has such a deep cultural and historical significance for the city. “We have preserved the characteristics of the Central Department Store, modernizing it for the client of the XXI century; provided a huge amount of free space in the center of the store, thanks to the non-standard dramatic focus, "said Jason Clark, assistant director at Benoy. A complete restoration of the existing historic façade, lined with red granite, in the Art Deco style of 1938 and 1956, was carried out, preserving these characteristics for future generations.

The new Central Department Store holds more than 22,000 square meters. m of retail space on nine levels. Benoy's design focuses on the dramatic sculptural void of free form that revolves around the center of the department store.

"We are proud to present a new radically reconstructed Central Department Store. We needed to preserve the historic facade of the building and provide additional internal rebranding, which expands the horizons of the modern buyer, "said Brian Handley, CEO of Central Department Store. At the top of the building will be many restaurants and a transparent roof terrace Khreshchatyk, but also for the whole city. An additional 200 parking spaces have been placed on two levels of underground parking.
